How Valley Springs is preparing for growth

This is a paid piece from the Sioux Metro Growth Alliance.

Simplified: Valley Springs has been upgrading infrastructure and planning for new houses as the metro area continues to grow. Here's what you need to know.

Why it matters

  • Valley Springs has invested about $6 million into infrastructure projects in recent years between sewer upgrades and a project to connect the two wells currently serving the area.
  • The city has also recently hired a new finance officer to help in positioning Valley Springs for future growth.
  • And, an ongoing housing project has the capacity to bring up to 75 homes to Valley Springs.
"We're growing real nice with this housing project," Mayor Carl Moss said. "People are liking the small-town living."

Tell me more about these projects

Valley Springs recently completed a $3 million upgrade to the sewer system, Moss said.

The other big project – a $3 million investment to connect the two wells – is underway right now, he added.

  • This project also involves installation of a small water purification system, which will add more purification to both wells.
"Investing in infrastructure is a great and essential step to planning for future growth," said Jesse Fonkert, president and CEO of the Sioux Metro Growth Alliance. "Valley Springs is setting itself up for success as more people move to town."

Meanwhile, on the housing side, Homestead Construction has already built about eight new homes, all of which are occupied.

  • The development room to expand to up to 75 new homes, Moss said.
  • And new homes are selling as they're being built.
"When he gets one foundation poured, he's generally got it sold," Moss said.

What happens next?

Valley Springs' will continue work on the water project, and Homestead will keep building homes as more folks move to town.
