- Fewer kindergarteners drive lower enrollment. The Sioux Falls School District released its preliminary enrollment data for the 2025-26 school year with 24,290 students. There are about four dozen fewer kindergarteners, and overall about 140 fewer elementary schoolers. Overall, enrollment is about flat year-over-year, but it's likely the final number will change when the final enrollment is taken at the end of the month due to any last-minute transfers, no shows, etc., according to Director of Data Services Doug Morrison. See the full report here.
- Shoes for kids. Local food truck owner Rudy Navarrete has been raising money to buy new, brand-name shoes for kids at the Boys & Girls Club for years now, and this year is no different. With support from Trade Home Shoes, Navarrete will be giving away shoes to kids in the K-5 after-school programs at Cleveland and Laura B. Anderson Elementary Schools on Wednesday.
- More golf happening. The Sanford International PGA golf tournament is in town this week, and if you're into golf you can get tickets and watch the action go down. Find a schedule of events and ticket details here.
- ❄️ Plow, baby, plow. City Council voted 8-0 on Tuesday to approve up to $8 million for the city to buy motor graders to clear roads. Historically, the city has leased these vehicles, but the goal is to ultimately save money over a 15-year period by buying instead of leasing.
- The vote came after a deferral to give the council time to talk about whether it was a worthwhile investment, and ultimately the council amended to make sure if a bid to purchase comes in under $8 million, any remaining funds go back to the general fund.
