Sioux Falls Washington has more state high school football championships than any other school in the country. Since 1905, the Warriors have 42 state titles, 10 more than second place Little Rock Central in Arkansas.

But the last time Washington won a title was in 2017, and since then, it’s been tough going for the Warriors. They’ve had just one winning season since that last state title nine years ago, and that came in 2018 in a state runner-up finish.

Despite some struggles in recent years, things started to turn for Washington last season, and the once dominating program is showing signs of growth. After a slow start, the Warriors came on late, winning its last four games of the regular season to finish 5-5 overall before a first round exit to Sioux Falls Jefferson in the state quarterfinals.
