Simplified: Daylily Coffee's new shop is now open Fridays and Saturdays. Owner Ariana Vandersnick gave Sioux Falls Simplified a look inside, and we sat down to chat about the company's new espresso blend, De DÃa.
Tell me more about the shop
Vandersnick and her husband Andrew Fritz have been planning a brick-and-mortar location for Daylily Coffee for several months now. After some delays in getting the East Eighth Street location ready to go, they've officially opened with limited hours to start.
Their hope with Daylily is to create a coffee shop that's focused on the producers.
"Behind (our coffee) is all of the effort of people across the world," Vandersnick said.
It takes five years for a coffee tree to produce fruit, she added, so there's a lot of work and planning that goes into your daily cup. The goal with Daylily is to help educate people about what goes into their morning brew.
Tell me more about the new blend
De DÃa is the first custom blend from Daylily, and it's also the espresso they'll be serving up day-to-day in the shop.
The coffee itself includes a pulped natural coffee sourced from an all-female cooperative in Brazil. That's mixed with a washed Ethiopian coffee sourced from the Hambella washing station – which is a bunch of small, family coffee farmers who share a station.
Vandersnick said by blending different beans, De DÃa is great starting point for people because it's more and accessible.
All of Daylily's coffee aim to highlight the natural fruitiness of coffee, she added.

Daylily Coffee is located at 1010 E. 8th St. The shop will be open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and both espresso drinks and pastries will be available for purchase.
